A warm welcome
The Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners (GNASSM) is the umbrella Association of registered Small Scale Miners as stipulated in our Mining Laws. The Association was formed in 2011 and its formation was facilitated by the Minerals Commission under the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006 (Act 703, subsection 90 (e)). We operate in all the nine Mining Districts as demarcated by the Minerals Commission.
Mission
To promote Small Scale Mining efficiently and to make more attractive to all small scale miners and thereby discouraging illegal mining completely
Vision
To become the leading Organisation for Responsibly Artisanal and Small Scale Gold Mining and the hub for promoting responsibly Artisanal and Small Scale Mining in Ghana and Africa.
Objectives
- To promote the following;
The regularisation and licensing for Small Scale Miners. - Protect the right, interest and welfare of Miners.
- Encourage miners to payment of taxes for economic development
- Women empowerment and livelihood at mining sites and the mining Communities.
- Fight against environmental degradation and illegal mining.
- Child labour in small scale mining and the entire supply chain.
- Advocacy and policy influence in the small scale sub sector.
ACHIEVEMENTS
Training and Development
Signing of MoU between GNASSM and University of mines and technology and development of modules for the training and development of small scale miners also collaborated with a team of researchers from UMaT to disseminate their findings of a novel method of recovering gold without the use of mercury from concentrate (direct smelting gold concentrate) which was funded by the European Union through the mercury abetment project. The modules were used by IMCIM under the support by Government to train miners during the ban on all forms SSM.
